NGT clears Baina beach beautification

PANJIM: The Pune Bench of the National Green Tribunal (NGT) has given Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC) the nod for the Bain beach beautification project, which had been halted after a social activist approached the bench.

GTDC on Wednesday informed the tribunal that all civil construction works of the Baina Beach beautification project that have been approved by the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) and others, have been completed.
The submission was made by GTDC when the matter came up for hearing before the tribunal. NGT has allowed GTDC to complete finishing works such as tiling, electrical works and installation of benches at the site. NGT has refused to grant a stay on the project though two of the petitioners appealed for a stay.
GTDC had filed an affidavit in the matter last week whereas GCZMA filed an affidavit on Tuesday. The next hearing is on January 10, 2017.
Advocate Dattaprasad Lawande represented GTDC before the NGT.
More than 90 percent of the work has been completed and minor finishing works are expected to be completed shortly, GTDC said.
