VASCO: BJP National President Amit Shah on Saturday said GST would help eradicate ‘inspector raj’ in the country.
Addressing a large gathering of BJP supporters on his arrival at Dabolim Airport on Saturday, Shah complemented Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the successful launch of Goods and Service Tax (GST) in the Parliament on Friday night.
“With the launching of GST, India takes a leap towards ‘One Nation One Tax’. From the time, Modiji has taken over (as prime minister), he has been introducing new things in each sector. But I would like to tell the country that what happened last night (GST) is the biggest tax reform step taken since Independence,” he said.
He predicted that “This tax reform will accelerate the economic growth of the country making it a global leader. GST has dissolved more than 17 different taxes converting them into a single tax which will help traders, businessmen and small entrepreneurs.”
“BJP government under the leadership of Narendra Modi has helped them to get relief from Inspector Raj,” Shah claimed.
He acknowledged that there might be some teething problem with the implementation of GST in the beginning. However, he said, the same would be worked upon.
“I don’t deny that there may not be teething problem with the implementation of GST in the beginning, however, I want to assure the people that the new tax reform will fasten the economic growth of the country and will end several tax related legislations,” he said.
“Earlier there were inspectors and inspections creating hurdles for the traders but with the new tax reform, we have achieved a dream of one country, one tax under the leadership of President of India Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” he explained.
On his arrival, Shah was accorded a warm welcome by BJP workers. Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, BJP Goa Unit President Vinay Tendulkar, BJP’s National Joint General Secretary B L Santosh, AYUSH Minister Shripad Naik, MP Narendra Sawaikar, besides other current/former BJP MLA’s were present at Dabolim airport to welcome him.

GST will benefit common
man, says Shripad
PANJIM: The Goods and Service Tax (GST) will benefit the common man, Union Minister of State for AYUSH Shripad Naik said on Saturday. Naik was addressing the media after inaugurating Vartalaap, a media outreach programme organised by Press Information Bureau (PIB) in Panjim. “Apart from streamlining the tax regime in the country, GST will benefit the common man,” Naik said.
He added that the consensus by all political parties for a unified tax regime is an indication of a mature democracy. He also said that the tax regime is the backbone of country’s economy, hence it needs to be simple and streamlined. Delivering his keynote address, GST Commissioner K Anpazhakan said that with the launch of GST the much-awaited indirect tax system has been evolved in the country. He said GST rests on the idea of One Nation One Tax. “This will lead to economic ease besides country’s growth rate will increase by one to two percent,” he added.
