Health Dept framing diabetes policy

The Health Department is in the process of formulating a Diabetes Policy to control diabetes and diabetes related disorders even as it has been carrying out a survey to determine what percentage of population is suffering from diabetes.
Dr Ravindra Nadkarni, Chief Medical Officer, in-charge, non-communicable diseases informed that they will shortly come out with diabetes policy.
The department has been emphasizing on creating awareness and has conducted 108 camps all over the State. They have detected that 2341 people are having uncontrolled diabetes after screening 13250 people.
At present there are more than 20 million diabetic patients in India, which is estimated to go up to more than 55 millions by 2025
While house-to-house survey has been completed in talukas of Pernem, Vasco, Panjim wherein 8557 persons were referred for further treatment on found to have diabetes.
Also, house-to-house survey will be shortly taken up in Ponda, said Dr Nadkarni adding that their focus is to make people take up healthy lifestyle.
The type 2 diabetes can be avoided by adopting right eating habits and healthy lifestyle, added Dr Nadkarni.
Whereas type 2 or juvenile diabetes occurs at a younger age in Indians and is difficult to control.
