Heavy rainfall on Monday night led to the uprooting of a large banyan tree near Quitla ground in Aldona, damaging electricity lines and causing a temporary power outage in the area. Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported.
According to local resident Alfi Lobo, the incident occurred at around 10.30 pm during intense rainfall. The massive tree came crashing down into a nearby field, damaging electric wires in the process and disrupting power supply to surrounding households.

Residents quickly alerted the Fire and Emergency Services, who responded promptly and assessed the situation. Since the tree had fallen along an interior road and did not obstruct traffic movement, authorities decided to carry out the clearance operation during daylight hours.
“The tree suddenly came down due to the heavy rain. We immediately informed the Fire and Emergency Services, who arrived quickly. Thankfully, nobody was injured, though the damaged power lines caused a blackout in the area,” said Lobo.
The Electricity Department restored power to consumers after approximately two hours. Officials are expected to undertake further repairs to the damaged infrastructure and ensure permanent restoration of power connections.
Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant as heavy rainfall continues across Goa, increasing the risk of tree falls and related incidents.
