PANJIM: The High Court of Bombay at Goa on Friday stayed the proceedings against councillor of Sankhali Municipal Council Raya Parsekar. The direction came following a petition filed by Parsekar challenging the notice issued by Directorate of Municipal Administration on Thursday.
He was also granted anticipatory bail by a local court, in connection with a criminal case registered at Bicholim police station.

The issue pertains to the turmoil within the SMC wherein Dharmesh Saglani -ed panel finally won the no- confidence motion against the Chairperson by 7-0 votes.
In another case, a day before the no-confidence motion was scheduled, the High Court had stayed the disqualification proceedings against Rajesh Sawal before Urban Development Minister Milind Naik on Thursday afternoon and sought a reply from the minister.
Sawal said a complaint was filed against him stating that he stands disqualified to continue as councillor. Expecting an unfavourable order, Sawal had approached the high court seeking relief.
The court said that disqualification of an elected councillor is a serious matter and even the statute requires that such a councillor be given a reasonable opportunity before he is held guilty of any misconduct in the discharge of his duties, or any disgraceful conduct.
