PANJIM: Inspector General of Police Jaspal Singh with his team inspected the border check posts in the North District on Saturday to ensure lockdown orders are thoroughly adhered to.

A press release by the department states that the border check posts are jointly manned by an Executive Magistrate, staff from Health Department and police staff.
“Post lockdown an officer of the rank of inspector has been deployed to ensure proper supervision of the staff. The check posts are working round the clock. A tent and temporary toilet facilities have been provided to the staff. District Superintendent of Police and incident commanders are also visiting to ensure alertness and to guide the staff,” it states.
Singh, also officiating Director General of Police along with Superintendent of Police North Utkrisht Prasoon and respective police inspectors briefed the staff to ensure that vehicles of permitted categories along with permitted individuals are only permitted in the State.
“The staff including Executive Magistrates, staff of the Health Department and police staff was found to be alert. A visit to neighbouring villages was also made to see that there is no movement of people from Maharashtra side,” the IGP said.
The visit incidentally comes a day after Health Minister Vishwajit Rane requested the Chief Minister to take stringent action to ensure movement from neighbouring State’s district is restricted and banned except for transport of essential goods.
Rane had tweeted that in view of rising cases of COVID-19 in Belgavi, a lot of people were entering the State via Chorla Ghat into Keri which can pose great danger to the citizens.
The sarpanchas and panchas have been maintaining strict vigil and have brought the matter to the notice of the minister.

Alert sounded over entry of persons from across borders
With increasing number of COVID-19 cases being reported in neighbouring Belgaum district in Karnataka, the State Executive Committee (SEC) has directed Collectors to be alert on the movement of persons coming to Goa from across the borders. During the meeting held on Sunday, SEC headed by Chief Secretary Parimal Rai inquired about the status of confirmed cases in Belgaum, in the last few days. The committee has advised State administration to be alert on the movement of persons coming to Goa, and that all checks be carried out at the borders to ensure proper health screening. “Only authorised persons should be allowed entry into the State,” SEC said. South Goa Collector Ajit Roy said that he is in touch with the Belgaum Collector and that the cases, which have tested positive, were already under quarantine. So far, at least 36 positive cases have been reported in Belgaum district.
