“We are trying to chargesheet the accused on April 27, but some papers are yet to be finalized. If these don’t complete by the due date, we may extend it by another day, on April 28,” a senior officer told HERALD.
Pratima Naik is accused of killing her mother-in-law Usha Naik and older sister-in-law Dr Neha Naik while they were asleep. Her brother-in-law Abhijeet Korgaonkar will also be indicted for the offence.
On January 30, Pratima served the victims food and milk laced with a sleep-inducing substance. Neha slept on the first floor of the duplex flat, while Usha dozed off watching TV on the ground floor. The accused first strangulated Usha with a rope and then smothered Neha with a pillow. After the incident, she had self-inflicted minor injuries to hoodwink the police by portraying it as a case of armed robbery.
