PONDA: Taking cognisance of a O Heraldo report of a pregnant woman who sustained injuries after falling off a two-wheeler on a dug-up road in Kapileshwari, the PWD finally began the repair work. The road has been dug for laying power cables.

Several workers were working on repairing the trenches using rumbler soling and road rollers for levelling the said road.
The locals said that the PWD and Electricity Department should make use of the prevailing bright weather conditions and make the road motorable to prevent accidents in future.
O Heraldo in its edition of June 20 had reported that a woman, seven months pregnant, pillion riding on a two-wheeler, sustained injuries after falling off the vehicle at Kapileshwari. Following the accident, the locals immediately rushed her to the Ponda Sub District Hospital for treatment.
Kavlem resident Kisan Naik had said on reaching the sharp turn at Kapileshwari, the rider applied brakes to avoid the pothole on the road following which another two-wheeler proceeding along the route dashed against the vehicle. The impact was such that the pregnant woman fell off the two-wheeler. The locals moved her to hospital and blamed the government for not restoring the roads which have been dug for laying power cables.
Naik attributed the incident to bad roads which have been dug for laying underground power cables.
Curti locals said another woman, who was proceeding on a scooter to pick up her child, sustained injuries after she fell into a trench dug for laying gas lines.
The locals have blamed the PWD, Electricity Department and Sewerage Corporation for failing to restore roads that have been dug for carrying out development works.
The locals said not only road shoulders; the trenches on the road also pose danger to motorists.
It is pertinent to note that despite opposition from locals across various panchayats in Ponda taluka, the roads were dug in May and June for carrying out works such as underground power cabling and laying of sewerage and gas lines.
The locals complained that these roads have developed potholes and have turned slippery posing a danger to motorists.
