Amazon executive shares experience of filing taxes with AI

One of the most discussed examples came from Akhil Sood, a senior Amazon executive based in Washington. In a LinkedIn post, Sood revealed that he used an AI assistant to file his Indian tax return.

According to Sood, filing taxes as a Non-Resident Indian (NRI) had traditionally involved searching for a chartered accountant, coordinating paperwork and waiting for responses. This year, however, he relied on AI to guide him through the process.

He said the tool not only answered questions but also explained why specific fields existed, what information was required and how different income categories functioned. The experience helped him better understand the tax filing process instead of simply filling out forms.

Sood also noted that the AI assistant helped identify potential issues on the income tax portal and guided him on raising grievances when necessary. While he stressed that AI cannot completely replace professional advice in complex cases, he said it significantly reduced the friction involved in filing returns.

Bengaluru professional claims Claude handled entire filing process

In another viral LinkedIn post, Bengaluru-based information security specialist Uddeshya Kumar claimed he used Anthropic’s Claude Desktop App to complete his tax filing without hiring a CA.

Kumar said he uploaded his Form 16 and instructed the AI to file an ITR-1 return. According to him, Claude cross-checked salary details with the Annual Information Statement (AIS), identified discrepancies, managed a mid-year employer switch, handled session timeouts and resolved validation errors during the filing process.

He described the experience as having “a CA sitting next to me” throughout the filing process.

Detailed AI prompts gain popularity online

Kumar also shared a detailed prompt designed for salaried employees filing ITR-1 returns. The prompt included instructions for verifying personal details, confirming income information, reviewing deductions and completing Aadhaar OTP-based verification.

The growing trend highlights how AI tools are increasingly being used to navigate complex government processes. While experts continue to advise caution when sharing financial information and recommend professional consultation for complicated tax matters, many taxpayers are finding that AI can simplify routine filings, save time and improve understanding of the tax system.

As AI capabilities continue to evolve, tax filing may become one of the most common examples of how artificial intelligence assists users with everyday administrative tasks.
