PANJIM: A large group of Betim locals led by newly elected Member of the Legislative Assembly Kedar Naik gheraod the Ports officials on Tuesday complaining about disrupted Panjim-Betim ferry service.
The locals alleged that the authorities have kept the general public in the loop about the stoppage of service, which is largely due to a construction work for casino visitors.

The locals demanded uninterrupted ferry service on the route that is being used by maximum passengers on either side of River Mandovi.
Locals, in their half an hour long meeting with the senior officers of the department, alleged that ferry services are being frequently disrupted owing to the ongoing work of building a structure for embarking and disembarking of passengers of casino operating in the congested river.
Six off shore casinos are currently operating the River Mandovi and with COVID-19 restrictions lifted the number of casino visitors are increasing.
Captain of Ports Jamesh Braganza, on being asked about the irregular ferry service on one of the prime ferry routes said that the ferry service was stopped as they were having maneuvering difficulties at the ferry ramp during the low tide. “Instructions have already been sent to the technical team and the services will be resumed,” he added.
