MARGAO: Macasana Sarpanch Agnelo Costa, while clarifying that the panchayat cleans up the roadside bushes twice and even thrice if necessary, regretted that the Deputy Sarpanch Feliciana Souza could not answer the gram sabha members properly.
He said he had informed in writing to the panchayat and the deputy sarpanch about his inability to be present for the gram sabha held on October 28, as he had to be present for the Goa Football Association elections scheduled at around the same time.
“We cut the road side bushes when we clean the drains in June and July and then again the road side bushes are cut after the month of August as they grow during the monsoons,” he said and regretted that the deputy sarpanch did not clarify this matter on Sunday.
He accused Milagres Almeida of simply raking up issues only to hit at the panchayat because somebody had allegedly blocked the rear access to his house. “Let Milagres show how many times he came to the panchayat and I was not there,” he said asserting that he makes it a point to visit the panchayat regularly so that no work is kept pending.
He admitted that sometimes when there are meetings called by the BDO or if there are inspections he is not present in the panchayat on Thursday. “But then I go some other day and see that all the work is completed,” he said.
Meanwhile Macasana Talathi Janice Colaco also asserted that she makes it a point to visit the Macasana panchayat every Tuesday and Thursday as she has additional charge of Paroda panchayat.
“I make it a point to inform the panchayat if I cannot come on any day or if I am on leave so that people are informed about my absence,” she said. It may be recalled that at the gram sabha on Sunday, Milagres had alleged that the talathi also is irregular in her attendance.
