MARGAO: Taking strong objection to the ‘illegal’ fish sale in the South Goa Planning and Development Authority’s (SGPDA) wholesale fish market, Madel Retail Fish Vendors’ Association on Wednesday urged both Margao and Fatorda MLAs to intervene in the matter at the earliest.
They also complained that the SGPDA is not listening to their grievances, despite submitting several memorandums.

At the time Margao MLA Digambar Kamat and Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai attended the inaugural function of biomethanation plant, Felix Gonsalves, president of Retail Fish Vendors’ Association along with several other fish vendors put forth their grievances and urged for action.
Retail fish vendors claimed that ‘illegal’ fish sale is going on at the SGPDA wholesale fish market, as a result retail fish vendors are at a losing end.
Speaking to the media persons, Gonsalves said they have been urging the PDA chairman Wilfred D’Sa for the last several months but nothing has been done.
“We have demanded action against the vendors selling fish at retail price near the wholesale fish market and it should be stopped,” said Gonsalves.
He said today they have put forth their grievances before the MLAs Digambar Kamat and Vijai Sardesai and have urged them to intervene in the matter at the earliest.
Margao MLA urged the retail fish vendors to meet the PDA chairman and discuss the issue. He opined that the retail fish sale at wholesale fish markets should be stopped.
On Wednesday he met the fish cutters at SGPDA market and discussed the issue. Fish cutters have requested the MLA to waive off the rent, besides to extend the counters given to them.
“PDA has already decided to waive off six months’ rent as they were badly affected due to the COVID pandemic,” said Kamat.
