PORVORIM: Commuters at Kadamba bus stand, Mapusa are inconvenienced, as the high mast light installed at the bus stand has not been working for the past six months.
Though there were other streetlights that were not functioning, this high mast light was important, since it lit up the entire Kadamba bus stand. There is lot of traffic and pedestrians during night at Kadamba bus stand.
The shopkeepers, whose shops are facing towards the Kadamba bus stand, complained that their business has suffered a setback, as very few passengers enter the bus stand during the night. The traffic police have also complained about the problem.
When contacted, Deputy Chief Minister and Mapusa MLA Francis D’Souza said the high mast light was installed by the Tourism Department to give proper lighting to the commuters.
“However, the Tourism department has not paid the electricity bill to the tune of Rs 2.50 lakh to the Electricity department. The moment this bill is settled, the Electricity department will repair the high mast lamp and will make it functional,” said D’Souza.
