The MMC team seized fish, besides fruits, vegetables and other goods which were sold on the roadside near the South Goa Planning and Development Authority’s wholesale fish market. Several migrants were found carrying out illegal business activities and tried to escape.

Later, the civic body team moved to the stadium road at Fatorda and also at Borda where they found hundreds of vendors conducting illegal business activities.

It may be recalled that the traders of the New Market had gheraoed chairperson Lyndon Pereira on the issue and had threatened to take law into their hands if the civic body failed to initiate action against the illegal business activities in and around market.

Speaking to media persons, Lyndon said the drive against the illegal business activities will continue in the coming days.

“We have planned to initiate action against the vendors conducting illegal business in and around the New Market on Monday. Today, we conducted a drive in Fatorda and seized goods worth thousands of rupees”, he said.  The chairperson also said the MMC team has also seized several posters and boards displayed without the council’s permission.

“This is not the first time the civic body has initiated action against the illegal vendors. However, no proper check on the activities has made the vendors carry out illegal business activities in the State’s commercial capital” said Lyndon.
