PANJIM: The Chapora Brothers, who were among 11 accused charge sheeted for allegedly murdering a Nigerian national in 2013, have been booked for illegal possession of one kg charas amounting to Rs 6 lakh. The younger brother has been arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau sleuths for the offence while the older sibling is being quizzed.
In a separate raid at Anjuna, local police recovered a huge quantum of a variety of drugs from a Nigerian, Ugochukwu, the cost of which is estimated at Rs 32.45 lakh approximately.
The Nigerian has been arrested. The local police seized 3.10 kg charas worth Rs 6.30 lakh, 505 LSD papers worth Rs 10.10 lakh, 114 gms MDMA worth Rs 11.30 lakh, 42 gms cocaine worth Rs 4.25 lakh, cocaine and 20 ecstasy tablets worth Rs 60,000 from his possession. The haul is considered to be one of the biggest this year.
In the raid at Omkar and Runal Palyekar’s house that went on for nearly six hours on Thursday, the NCB sleuths seized a cocktail of drugs reportedly hidden in various corners and in the furniture.
Runal Palyekar was subsequently arrested under the NDPS Act.
The duo already has a serious charge against them wherein 11 locals were booked for killing Nigerian Obado Uzoma Simeon at Parra on the night of October 31, 2013. The gang members, led by Omkar, were arrested and weeks later bailed out. The case is now on trial before a local court.
