MARGAO: Utorda resident Aleixo Pereira upped the ante against the Majorda panchayat by filing a police complaint against the secretary Narayan Azgaonkar and acting sarpanch Georgina Mascarenhas. He had previously moved a disqualification petition against Mascarenhas on different grounds.
The complaint charged the accused with forgery and flouting rules while granting permissions to a recently-inaugurated hotel in Utorda. Offences were registered against them under section 465, 471 r/w 34 of IPC (forgery).
In his complaint, Pereira alleged that Azgaonkar and Mascarenhas fabricated panchayat documents for the hotel in exchange for money.
Colva PSI Ritesh Tari is investigating the case.
The documents included approval of the hotel’s revised drawings and the grant of an occupancy certificate. Pereira’s accusation comes against the backdrop of similar allegations directed at the panch members at the previous gram sabha. The meeting was adjourned even as the Utorda residents demanded an explanation for the bribery charges. The next gram sabha will be held only after the next sarpanch is elected.
