Mastimoll-Sakrewal road in bad shape

Patches of the bitumen surface washed away; Locals say many unreported self-accidents on the route

The Mastimoll-Sakrewal road is in a dilapidated condition and is in urgent need of fresh hot-mix.
The residents of Sakrewal and Ansali have commuting along this two-km road, with patches of the bitumen surface washed away at several places. Travelling along this stretch has turned into a dangerous proposition as the residents have complained of many unreported self accidents on the route on account of the slippery conditions.
The residents informed that despite several complaints, the PWD has failed to act into the matter.
When Herald sought to know the reason behind the sorry state of the road and no repair undertaken despite several representations by the locals, the PWD officials replied saying “Estimates are submitted to the higher officials and that they are waiting for approval.”
Speaking on the condition of anonymity, a local resident said, “Each time we visit the PWD office they say estimate has been done and the file has been sent for approval. And at times they say “due to lack of funds the work has been kept pending. Since this road leads to the village where most ST residents reside they can undertake the repair works through tribal sub-plan”.
Another villager who frequently commutes along this stretch says, “The road is in pathetic condition and with no “godfather” residing in the locality the same has been neglected. Otherwise, look at all other roads in the taluka they are all hot mixed and are in excellent condition”.
