VASCO: The newly inducted Minister and Dabolim MLA Mauvin Godinho on Saturday issued a stringent warning to Navy and Airport Authority of India against flushing sewerage into the rivulet originating near Dabolim airport.
Addressing newsmen at BJP office at Dabolim on Saturday, Godinho said that release of sewage into the rivulet near Dabolim airport has become a menace and thus there is urgent need to go to the root from where the sewage is release and to take action against people or agency involved.
“Pollution emanating due to release of sewage by Airport authority or by Navy is very serious and both the agencies including are not taking responsibility for the same,” he alleged.
Therefore, he said, he has decided to make surprise visit with Goa Pollution Control Board officials, make them take samples and to go right to the root cause from where the sewage is being released leading to pollution in the rivulet near Assoi-Dongri.
“I want to assure the people of Chicalim that action will be taken against the agency involved in the act. You cannot leave your sewerage into natural drains leading to severe disease conditions,” Godinho said.
Commenting on the parking issue at Dabolim airport which has been prolonging since the time new terminal building was put into operation, Godinho said, “I know that parking is a big problem at Dabolim airport and I have decided to visit the airport and listen to the grievance of all the stake holders and other users of airport by next weekend.”
He said that after his visit he would sit with the airport authority and try to find a solution for the parking problem at the earliest. “Wherever the chief minister’s intervention is required, I will see to it that the chief minister intervenes and convene meeting to resolve the issue of parking as well as other issues plaguing Dabolim airport before the monsoons,” he assured.
