Meeting held to promote community farming

PILERNE: A meeting of farmers was organised on Thursday by the Pilerne-Marra Panchayat in collaboration with the Zonal Agriculture Office, Mapusa at the panchayat premises to boost farming in the village. 50 farmers attended the meeting that lasted for around two hours.
With farmers finding it difficult to carry out agriculture, the department is promoting the concept of community farming to boost farming in the villages.
At the meeting, the farmers were given information on agriculture, allied sector of agriculture and community farming to bring barren land under cultivation.
Pilerne Sarpanch Ajay Govekar said that the panchayat would help financially if possible.
Panch Karan Govekar informed that the meeting discussed various issues related to the farming community. “Discussion was in regards to community farming, community fencing, new seeds and enrolment of krishi cards,” he said.
The farmers put forth their queries related to community farming and availing of subsidy.
Zonal Agricultural Officer Raghunath Joshi also spoke on the occasion.
