Michael for unified Calangute-Saligao police station

PANJIM: Calangute MLA Michael Lobo has sought just one police station of Calangute which is now divided in two stations. He said that Saligao police station has strength of 70 police personnel which can be utilised for Calangute to maintain law and order in his constituency.
Lobo, speaking in the House, raised the issue of Calangute police station which needs to be strengthened and provided with proper infrastructure.
He mentioned that the Saligao Police’s jurisdiction was earlier with Calangute police station and it was divided due to differences between former MLA of Saligao. He said the present MLA won’t be having issues if Saligao police station is merged with Calangute.
Lobo, who is also Deputy Speaker, urged the Chief Minister to immediately take a decision and make one police station for Saligao and Calangute.
Speaking further he said that more vehicles and two wheelers should be given to the coastal police station to maintain law and order in view of its jurisdiction.
He also urged the government to immediately acquire land behind the present Calangute police station for expansion of the building. He said that the fire station which is stationed at Pilerne Industrial Estate can be also brought in the same premises.
He brought to the notice of the Home Minister that domestic tourists, who arrive in Goa for short visits, are regularly harassed by traffic police who remain on streets for enforcement duty.
