Bicholim: Mining transportation started in Pilgao Sarmanas, on Friday at around 4.10pm, via the main road, despite the farmers agitation which has been going on for the last 23 days. The ore transportation stopped at 5.30pm. Twenty trucks, traversed the main road in the given time and each truck was accompanied by a police escort.
Reacting to the restarting of ore transportation, Sudhakar Vaigankar said, “They have forcefully started ore transportation, with police protection, but we have not stopped them. We have not taken the law into our own hands. Thursday we had a meeting with the Directorate of Mines, but they had told us that no permissions were given (to restart ore transportation).
A petition has been filed in the High Court demanding that the mineral transport of Vedanta company be allowed to be done through the main public road.
The farmers have also filed their petition against this. No decision has been taken on this petition yet. Nor has there been a hearing. Still, the truck owners’ association has defied the court by forcibly transporting minerals through this public road. Farmers Anil Salelkar and Sudhakar Wayangankar informed that there was no approval from the concerned department for this transport.
