Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has assured a delegation of Mirabag protesters that the proposed bandhara project will not be carried out at the current location, offering a major relief to agitating residents.
The delegation, accompanied by Water Resources Department Minister Subhash Shirodkar, BJP State President Damodar Naik, and former MLA Vinay Tendulkar, met the Chief Minister to discuss concerns surrounding the project.
Speaking after the meeting, Tendulkar said the Chief Minister had clearly indicated that an alternative site would be identified for the proposed jackwell project, adding that the issue is “almost resolved.”
However, protest leader Sanket Bhandari stated that a final decision on whether to call off the agitation will be taken only after consulting all protesters.
The Mirabag agitation has been ongoing for over 40 days, with local residents opposing the project over fears of flooding, loss of agricultural land, and potential environmental damage.
