PANJIM: While hailing PWD Minister Ramkrishna Sudin Dhavalikar for carrying out various pending developmental works, MLAs, cutting across party lines, brought to the notice of the House the administrative lapses in the department.

The MLAs were quick to target department engineers for delaying the tendering process of various works. They demanded that the engineers and JEs should be replaced immediately with qualified staff, while participating in a discussion on demand for grants pertaining to PWD.

Curchorem MLA Nilesh Cabral strongly criticized the administrative functioning of the department, pointing that the files pertaining to the works are kept pending for months and years.

“Minister’s approval is granted for the project without any delay. But the staff at the administrative level delays the process further. The JEs and engineers seem to be less qualified. There are lots of irregularities in the tendering process,” Cabral said, urging Dhavalikar to look into the affairs of the department.

Cabral demanded that these engineers and JEs be replaced by appointing qualified staff. He also said that proper training should be imparted to engineers regarding tendering process.

Goa Vikas Party Nuvem MLA Francisco Pacheco also raised doubts over knowledge of JEs and engineers in the tendering process. He alleged that the files are kept pending for years even after minister’s sanction.

Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte, while participating in the discussion, also pointed out to the administrative lapses in the department and urged government to streamline the process. “There is need to have complete control over the administrative functioning of the department,” he said.

Earlier, the legislators congratulated the PWD Minister for carrying out most of the pending works in their respective constituencies.

Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai, praised PWD Minister and said that the Minister is been unnecessarily targeted by MLAs over the Zuari bridge issue. He alleged that politics has been played against the Minister.
