Record attendance on muster roll

MARGAO: For the second time in the last three months, Margao Municipal Council employees refused to record their attendance on the bio-metric finger scan readers.
Only 13 employees, mostly belonging to the common cadre, used the bio-metric finger scan today, while the remaining employees preferred to record their attendance on the muster roll.
Given the situation, MMC Chief Officer Deepali Naik told newsmen that her office would issue show cause notices and memos to the employees seeking their explanation over their refusal to use the bio-metric finger scan readers.
The chief officer told newsmen that it was indeed surprising that the employees have decided to go back on their word after agreeing to use the bio-metric finger scan readers at a meeting with the municipal administration.
“These bio-metric finger scan readers are not new to municipal employees. Most of the civic bodies in the State have already started using the bio-metric finger scan readers and the Margao Municipal Council seems to be the exception”, she said.
Replying to a question, the chief officer said she is willing to meet the municipal employees in a bid to break the impasse, while mulling action against the employees who refused to sign the bio-metric readers on Tuesday.
Deepali’s predecessor Sandhya Kamat had on April 8 issued a circular to the municipal employees making it mandatory for them to use the bio-metric scan readers from Tuesday ~ which was opposed by the Goa Municipal Employees Association on Monday.
