MARGAO: Margao Municipal Council appears bracing up to clear the encroachments and obstructions from the market passages and footpaths.
But welcome to the Margao Municipal building, where its passage lie blocked and obstructed by scrap material and trash right under the nose of the civic babus.
In fact, successive Chief Officers and Municipal Chairpersons have only paid lip service to the scrap material lying dumped in far corner of the building passage upstairs, adjoining the sanitary section.
The presence of the scrap has given a bad look to the century-old heritage building, but that has not spurred the civic babus to act and get the material cleared.
The media had in the past drew attention of the civic officials to the presence of the scrap, but in vain. “Barring one door, all the other doors of the press room cannot be opened because of the scrap material. Our plea to clear the passage has evoked lukewarm response from the city fathers and officials”, recalled a journalist.
A city father pointed out that the new Chief Officer should take a look at the passage and get the material cleared.
“It is surprising that an assistant engineer and a sanitary inspector, who are often found seated in the Chief Officer’s chamber, have not drawn attention of the Chief Officer to the scrap material lying in the building passage”, he added.
