VASCO: A committee of about 11 people, including Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) chairperson Damodar Kaskar, MMC engineers and few select councillors toured Pune on Saturday to look into the functioning of waste treatment plants. The team took the risk amid COVID pandemic to witness how efficiently these plants treat the garbage. A councillor revealed that a wet waste treatment plant is on the cards.
When contacted Prajay Mayekar, a councillor, who was a part of the team, said that they visited garbage treatment plants which treat wet (biodegradable) waste and from those fertilizers, water, biogas and power are generated.

In Mormugao municipal area about 10 tonnes of wet waste is generated daily. Once the 5 TDP biodigester plants are set up, it will treat wet waste.
