MARGAO: The Sunni Jamat Ul Muslameen Association (SJUM) of the Jamae Masjid requested the Salcete deputy collector and Chief Secretary of Goa to speed up the process of fresh demarcation of the land for a kabrastan near Sonsoddo.
SJUM also urged the district administration to allow cutting of land to make an approach road for the kabrastan and urged it to refrain from entertaining Matin Carol, who was speaking against acquiring the land at Sonsodo.
“The work of the kabrastan is in the final leg and we won’t bear any hindrance now. Our Masjid has an individual committee and we aren’t bound by some association of Muslims sitting in Delhi,” said Atik Banducda of the Jamae Masjid.
Land admeasuring 30,191 sq mts has been allotted for the kabrastan in Margao. It will also serve as a burial ground for the adjoining villages of Chandor and Navelim, among others. Margao Muslims have been asking for the land for a kabrastan for over four years. While the land has already been allotted and demarcated, it still needs to be developed and access road created.
