MARGAO: Goa Shiv Sena vice president Sudesh Bhise urged Goans to attend the truck drivers’ morcha in Panjim on Saturday. He stated, “Three years have passed since mining activities were stopped. The truckers, who have been rendered jobless, should rightfully get the package of Rs 5 lakh. The fight will be fruitful only if all people participate in the agitation.”
The All Goa Truck Drivers’ Association had decided to hold two morchas – one in each district – to highlight the plight of truck owners, who are in dire circumstances due to the mining ban. The truck drivers will push for a package of Rs 5 lakh.
Over 7,000 truck owners are expected to participate in the North Goa morcha, which will start at parade ground, Campal at 10 am and culminate at Azad Maidan. Buses at the pick-up points will leave for Panjim at 7.45 am.
Shiv Sena higher-ups from Mumbai are expected to participate in the morcha and address the gathering at Azad Maidan.
To publicise the event, Bhise had held a rally in Curchorem, Sanvordem, Sanguem and Quepem.
on September 7, which culminated in a meeting with over 300 drivers and their families.
