PANJIM: Permissions for setting up new Higher Secondary Schools (HSS) shall depend on the Class X exam results and the number of seats available in existing schools, according to Education Department.
Speaking to Herald, Director of Education G P Bhat said, “The department has received 21 applications for setting up new Higher Secondary Schools (HSS) for the year 2017-18, which includes aided as well as unaided schools. The condition for granting permissions will be purely dependent on Class X board exam results and the number of seats vacant in the existing HSS courses.”
“There are adequate HSS in Goa or we can say more than required. There is a tendency among students to go to urban areas. In rural areas there are hardly any students in HSS. We will see whether the nearby HSS have any vacant seats. We have kept three windows open – North, South and Central zonal offices – and students who don’t get admission will have to register there. If it is not possible to accommodate them we will think of it (new HSS), otherwise not,” he added.
Asked whether the institutes that have applied for permission have the required infrastructure, Bhat said, “We have not opened their applications. Some may have the infrastructure and if the need arises, permissions will be given to start from the coming academic year 2017-18. At present we have received four feasibility reports which will be studied.”
Of the 21 applications received, 12 (aided) are in the North Zone, one (unaided) in the South Zone, and eight (aided) in the Central Zone.
