Earlier hundreds of Children carrying environmental messages carried a rally from the Christo Rei hall which culminated near the chapel in front of the Sonsoddo dump yard. Fr. Mariano Goes e Proenca, Vicar of St. Alex Church, Curtorim inaugurated the tree plantation drive and asked all the participants to support the activities of Citizens for Sonsoddo in their endeavor to get rid of the foul odour and the garbage dump forever and to keep the vicinity clean & green around Sonsodo. Fr. Vincent Leitao, Chaplain of St. Joaquim Chapel, Borda, Margao as well as Fr. Edmundo Baretto, Chaplain of Our Lady of Carmel Chapel, Curtorim blessed the tree plantation drive and later both the priests inaugurated the plantation drive by planting the plants.
A lot of prominent citizens from different walks of life participated in the drive & pledged their support to the Citizens for Sonsoddo in finding a just solution to the Sonsoddo issue.
The tree plantation drive was initiated by Citizens for Sonsodo with citizens contributing in adopting different plants by sponsoring tree guards totalling up to 100 nos. The plants were supplied by the Forest Department., govt. of Goa with the active involvement of the Madgoan Vanmatsohav Samiti. Volunteers also distributed informative pamphlets on the activities of the activities of Citizens for Sonsoddo.
