PONDA: The activist group that is fighting against the construction of Sewerage Treatment Plant (STP) at Undir in Bandora, has said that the National Green Tribunal (NGT), Delhi bench, has stayed construction on the project.
This was informed at a press conference by Mukund Naik, the president of Undir Paryavaran Sarakshan Manch (UPSM), the group that is fighting against the construction of STP. UPSM members Surel Tilve and Swati Kerkar also address the press briefing.
Naik said that since past one-and-a-half-year, UPSM has been fighting to keep the harmful project away from Undir. He accused PWD Minister Sudin Dhavalikar and the Bandora Panchayat of forcing the project on the people of Undir, despite their strong opposition.
Naik also alleged that the STP is being planned within CRZ area along the river bank.
The members cautioned the people of Ponda to think twice before electing the panel floated by the PWD minister.
Tilve said that the proposed STPs at Khadpanband and Varkhandem were being opposed as they were in residential area in city and added the Public Prosecutor had assured the work on STP at Undir would not continue till May 30. Further, District Court had also given a stay to STP at Undir and directed Panchayat Director South Goa to hear the matter afresh on May 2.
