Some thieves wanting to do a quick burglary job as it poured, has just one stumbling block- fisherwoman Lucy.

In the wee hours of Saturday an alert fisherwoman, who after raising an alarm, foiled a full-fledged burglary attempt at three shops at Velsao in the wee hours of Saturday. She couldn’t stop them from robbing one shop though.
The burglars, who had already broken into the three shops, managed to flee and make good their escape with petty cash, goods and documents from just one of the grocery stores.
Speaking to O Heraldo, former Velsao panch member and social worker Roquezinho D’Souza, said, “The incident occurred at around 4 am, on Saturday morning.” The burglars broke into three shops including the one in Velsao Sports Club premises, a grocery store belonging to my brother and a tailoring shop. A fisherwoman Lucy, who was proceeding to Margao with her husband to get fish, noticed a shop open with the lights on. She contacted my brother Francisco D’Souza and enquired why the shop was open so early, but he replied saying that he was at home. Lucy immediately understood that the shops were being burgled and raised an alarm. The burglars who were in the shop immediately made good their escape with some goods, petty cash and documents.”
Roquezinho said after receiving a call from his brother, he immediately contacted the police, who reached the site and conducted the panchanama.
“We have called upon the police to intensify police patrolling and to conduct the tenant verification of these migrants. We have seen that many migrants sleep in our bus stops. However, we will not allow such crimes to take place in the village. In future we will contact the police if we spot the migrants, carry out the tenant verification or take them to the police stations. We are grateful to our fisherwoman, who acted like a responsible citizen, and alerted the villagers and foiled the burglary attempt” D’Souza urged.
