The Goa unit chief of National Students Union of India (NSUI), Sunil Khawtankar, met Goa Governor S S Siddhu on Tuesday and impressed upon him that the police-drug mafia nexus case should be handed over to the CBI.
Speaking to a handful of journalists outside the Raj Bhavan at Dona Paula, Khawtankar said that governor has assured to look into the matter.
“The governor admitted that it is a serious issue and that he would take up the matter with the chief minister and chief secretary,” he said.
Khawtankar said that his discussion with the governor was centred on the shoddy investigation conducted by Crime Branch team; missing narcotics from the malkhana and the observations of the Bombay High Court at Goa on the improper investigation that led to the grant of conditional bail to one of the tainted police officers Ashsh Shirodkar.
Khawtankar said that he also discussed the sudden disappearance of drug peddler Yaniv Benaim alias Atala with the governor.
Later, Chief Minister Digambar Kamat, Chief Secretary Sanjay Srivastava and DGP Bhim Sain Bassi had also met the governor.
When enquired whether the police-drug mafia nexus case was discussed at the meeting that he had with the governor, Chef Minister Kamat said: “The meeting was purely to wish the Governor on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi. We had fixed an appointment two days ago…there was no discussion on any case.”
