PANJIM: Puzzled at the victory of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) in Goa University Students Council Election, the National Students Union of India (NSUI) on Sunday said that it would seek a Vigilance investigation into the irregularities that led to the victory of BJYM.
BJYM is the students’ wing of the BJP, while NSUI is the students’ wing of the Congress.
NSUI said that it would file a complaint before the Vigilance Department against GU Chancellor Governor Dr Mridula Sinha and others demanding an investigation into the irregularities that led to victory of BJYM.
On November 23, BJYM claimed victory of the Students’ Council election unopposed, almost 23 days after NSUI claimed that the nomination papers of BJYM candidate were rejected and hence were unable to contest the polls.
Addressing media persons on Sunday, NSUI Goa President Ahraz Mulla said that they would file a vigilance complaint against Chancellor Mridula Sinha, Vice Chancellor Varun Sahani and Director of Students Welfare Dattesh Parulekar, who is linked to ruling BJP and RSS. “The complaint will be filed on Monday. We want the Vigilance Department to investigate into the entire election goof up,” he said.
Mulla said that the students wing wants to know how the BJYM were declared victorious when as their nominations on October 29, the last date for filing, were rejected.
“We are also in process of approaching High Court in the matter. The entire elections were manipulated by the Chancellor under pressure from BJP,” he alleged.
Speaking to Herald, BJYM General Secretary Gajanan Tilve said that their nominations were never rejected but were kept on hold. He even said that the BJYM had approached the Chancellor for her intervention in the matter and accordingly, fresh nominations were invited on November 16.
The elections were for nine posts- Chairman, general secretary and seven executive members.
