MARGAO, FEB 2 (hr) — In a daring burglary, unknown culprits barged inside the house of one Jose Andrade at Murda-Grande last night and decamped with valuables and cash, all worth Rs 1.76 lakhs.
The incident occurred last night between 1 am to 6 am when the inmates were sleeping inside the house.
The miscreants effected entry into the house by removing the roof tiles and lifted away the valuables from the cupboard.
Maina Curtorim police said the culprits looted the house of jewellery, two mobiles, besides cash of Rs 15,000.
It is learnt that a pearl set worth Rs 80,000, besides two gold bangles of Rs 65,000 have been stolen by the miscreants.
The police have registered a case against unknown miscreants under section 380 and 457 of the IPC.
Incidentally, the Murda-Grande area of Nuvem village had witnessed a spate of thefts, including motorcycles, in recent times, but the police have been ineffective in keeping the miscreants at bay.
In fact, the residents had caught red-handed a motorcycle thief last year and had handed him over to the police, but in vain.
