PANJIM: Election Commission of India has issued a notification for the February 13 Panaji by-polls Monday. The Model Code of Conduct came into effect from January 12 in North Goa district.
With this notification, the nomination process has begun for the polls. Nominations will be accepted till January 27 and scrutiny will take place on January 28. The last date for withdrawal of candidature is January 30. Counting will be held on February 16.
The Panaji by-polls will see a straight fight between BJP’s Siddharth Kuncolienkar and Congress candidate and city mayor Surendra Furtado. Furtado is due to file his nomination on February 21 while Kuncolienkar is set to file his nomination on February 24.
The by-polls have been necessitated after resignation of former CM Manohar Parrikar.
