PANJIM: Panjim MLA Atanasio Babush Monserrate on his maiden inspection of municipal market raised concerns about basic amenities for the vendors and the customers.
A day after taking oath as the legislator, on Wednesday, Babush inspected the capital city’s municipal market and raised concerns regarding proper ventilation for the vendors.
He said that people will see the difference within a month’s time.
He said, “They (vendors) need to do business in comfort and people who come here should also be comfortable. They should not suffer and as first step I have said let us provide fans for ventilation.”
The MLA also sought renovation of the fish market. “The CCP has already done some estimates (fish market) but I want better floor tiles to be used so that they don’t become slippery. But as per the PWD criteria certain type of tiles can be used. I want to enhance the quality of the tiles and we will bear the cost of the tiles,” he added.
Pointing at the private companies, Babush said that they will have to contribute to the well being of the Capital City. “We will get the private companies to fund through their CSR activities,” he stated.
Raising doubts on the income shown by the person manning the parking gate below the municipal market, he said, “The parking needs to be streamlined. There are no light in the parking space and there can be better income from the parking space. What the person is telling me is that it’s a small amount.”
He reiterated that the Panjim Municipal Market will have the basic amenities in place within a month.
