PANJIM: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Wednesday held a meeting to review the dilapidated condition of the Miramar-Dona Paula concrete road directing the Goa State Infrastructure Development Authority (GSIDC) to draft a long-term policy for maintenance and cleanliness of the road.
Directions are issued to various authorities to immediately cover manholes and expedite the illumination work of the road.
Herald in its July 4th edition’s weekly special segment ‘Panjim Page’ had exposed how the road built spending over Rs 72 crore in a bid to provide a smoother and safer ride to the commuters, defeated the purpose, as presently it is in a very bad shape with bumpy rides, manholes that have come off or are not properly covered, huge screw like projections and holes on the footpaths, making difficult for the travelers.
This morning, Parrikar held a meeting to review the condition of the road. The meeting was attended by former Panjim MLA Sidharat Kuncolienkar, GSIDC Managing Director Sanjit Rodrigues, City Commissioner Deepak Desai and officials of PWD-Sewerage section. During the meeting, Chief Minister instructed PWD to take up urgent replacement of manhole covers and align the same to road level. Instructions are also issued to Panjim Corporation to undertake cleanliness of the road along with the footpaths.
The GSIDC, the nodal agency to monitor the condition of the road, is directed to expedite the illumination work for which the contractor has already been appointed.
On Monday, as Team Herald inspected the stretch from Miramar to NIO Circle to Raj Bhavan, the situation stood exposed.
