Parts of Quepem run dry as water pipeline ruptures

QUEPEM: Parts of Quepem Municipal area had no water supply for over 10 hours and the matter is not yet solved, thanks to the lackadaisical attitude of the authorities.

The problem occurred at around 8 am when a JCB used to carry out road works ruptured the water pipeline along the Madhegal to Soliya road.

What was truly shocking is that even though lakhs of litres of treated water was just being wasted, the authorities appeared to be in no hurry to rectify the problem and save this precious resource.

Due to the incident, residents of Soliya did not have water for the whole day.

According to eye witnesses, this happens because there is no official or representative of the Water Supply Department whenever road works are being done to guide those doing the work about the existence of the water pipeline.

Local councillor Sushant Naik revealed that the JCB operator had no answer when questioned how he did the work in the absence of an official of the Water Supply Department.

He demanded that the contractor be penalised for the inconvenience he has caused to the people by depriving them water for the whole day and said such things will not be tolerated in future.
