PORVORIM: Describing the economic condition of Goa as “very critical”, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee President Subhash Shirodker claimed that people residing along the mining belt are being driven to starvation.
“People are fed up with the BJP administration and are repenting for having elected the BJP into power. The Congress will come to power during the next assembly election and congress workers should ensure that central government schemes reach the common people,” said Shirodkar, while addressing elected representatives of local bodies of North Goa at a hotel in Porvorim.
Congress Party Spokesman Sudip Tahmanker claimed that when the Congress was in power, Manohar Parrikar spoke vociferously on mining, casinos and the language issue.
“But having come to power, he cannot solve a single issue successfully. On the contrary, he has taken a U-turn on many issues and now, he wants to destroy the tourism industry by imposing an entry tax on vehicles,” said Tahmanker.
Accusing the BJP government of “fooling the people by dolling out big assurances”, Curtorim MLA Reginaldo Lourenco claimed that not a single industry has come up in Goa during the last nine months.
Former MLA Babu Azgaonker, former union minister Ramakant Khalap, Guirish Chodanker, Mohan Dhond, and Mario Pinto also spoke on the occasion. Earlier, Zilla Panchayat (North) President Jayesh Salgaonker welcomed the gathering, while Amarnath Panjiker later proposed the vote of thanks.
