PONDA: Water supply to Old Goa, Corlim and some parts of Tiswadi was affected as the pipeline supplying water from OPA water treatment plant burst at Zingdimal Curti on Thursday morning at 8 am.
The pipeline-burst caused flooding affecting ten houses at Zingdimal and the water was gushing out for more than 20 minutes before the officials stopped the supply.
The locals said that around 100-meter stretch of road was also washed away in the flood.
According to reports reaching here, an elderly woman and some children were trapped in a house which got flooded and the water level reached more than a metre from the floor.
Learning of the same, local youth rushed in and rescued the trapped victims. It is also learnt that some cash kept in the house was washed away in the flood.
The reports further said that some houses got damaged in the flooding; the Kendriya Vidyalaya was also flooded; a compound wall also damaged.
The locals whose houses were flooded have lodged criminal complaints with the Ponda police over the incident.
Meanwhile, PWD Executive Engineer Nivruthi Parsekar said that some parts of Old Goa and Corlim were affected due to bursting of the pipeline. He said that his department employees have started replacing the damaged pipeline and that the concrete blocks on which the pipeline is being laid needs at least six hours to dry up. Therefore, by late night water would be restored to affected areas, he said.
