The Corporation of the City of Panjim and opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) corporators have filed a police complaint against a ruling corporator in a market scam.
In the complaint filed before Panjim police station on Tuesday, BJP corporators have said that Daya Karapurkar along with some other people was demolishing a wall of the existing shop number 334 in Panjim market.
The complaint by corporator Rupesh Halarnkar says that Karapurkar and others were putting a shelter converting one shop into two.
The issue was brought to the notice on Monday when Halarnkar received a call informing him about the conversion of shop into two by Karapurkar. BJP corporators had gheraoed Mayor Caroline Po demanding immediate action against Karapurkar.
The corporators who cornered Po said that police complaint should be filed by CCP against the ruling corporator Karapurkar for his illegal act.
Two days after BJP’s protests, CCP officially filed complaint against the corporator with Panjim police on Wednesday.
CCP commissioner Elvis Gomes lodged the complaint stating that the corporator damaged public property. The corporator is also accused of forgery.
Confirming about the complaint, CCP official said that when the matter was brought to the notice of commissioner today, he immediately registered a police complaint.
