The Leader of the Opposition Manohar Parrikar today demanded that the State Government should put in place a policy to regulate events or fests that are allowed to be held in the State so that they do not become playing grounds for drug peddlers.
Speaking at a press conference on Thursday here Parrikar raised objections to ongoing three day ‘Goa Fest’ at Cavelossim beach for which he alleged permission has been granted without checking ground realities.
He said, application seeking permission was made on March 28, 2010, and permission was granted within five days. As per permission granted the fest would be between 11 am and 11 pm for three days. He raised a question as to what kind of checking the government authorities must have made in five days time.
Referring to similar event, Sun burn party which was held in last December at Calangute beach that created quite a heat due to death of one of the participants, Neha Bahuguna allegedly due to drug overdose.
Parrikar said the Government should be have been more careful while granting permissions to such events. Saying that some fests provide scope for drug peddlers he insisted that the government should have a policy in place to regulate and grant permission for such events.
