PONDA: Ponda MLA Ravi Naik on Monday urged the government and locals to provide financial help and food to worst hit migrant labourers.
He fears that if they leave to their native place due to lack of food and shelter then the Goans would sure to face shortage of labourers for the development works in future. He humbly appealed the locals to donate for COVID-19 fund stating that Goans often comes to help the needy in time of crisis.

“I will provide all the possible help to the needy and labourers,” he added.
He appreciated that besides him there are several NGOs and public members who are cooking and supplying food to the stranded labourers daily.
He said, “The labourers are disturbed and panic due to uncertain future and so the Goans and State government must assure and create safe environment in the minds of labourers which is the real workforce of Goa.”
“New generation is shying away to do hard work and so if this worst hit labour force left one day to their native place, the Goans would suffer as there would be no workforce to conduct their works,” the MLA said.
Therefore, he urged the government as well as people of Goa to provide financial help and daily food to worst hit migrant labourers or else Goa would face shortage of labourers for monsoon, development and constructions works.
He said, “Due to COVID-19 lockdown the labourers are helpless, they have no work and they have no money to bear their cost and even can’t pay rent of their rooms and so public, industrialist, contractor and government should seriously look into their issues.”
Naik considering that government should extend COVID-19 lockdown, further urged Pramod Sawant government to provide pass to the family head of every household so that he can go out and buy grocery, vegetables and fish by observing social distancing so that it would not create rush in the markets.
