Ponda municipal Chairperson steps down after one-year tenure

PONDA: Ritesh Naik, the Chairperson of the Ponda Municipal Council (PMC) resigned from his post on Saturday. He submitted his resignation to the Director of Municipal Administration. It is understood that Ritesh Naik’s resignation follows a mutual agreement among councillors, after serving a one-year term.

Ritesh, who is the son of Agriculture Minister Ravi Naik, was re-elected as Chairperson on May 17, 2023, after the municipal election. It is noteworthy that in recent years, no chairperson has completed a full five-year tenure. Many have held the post for a maximum of two years, while some served for only one year, and others, for as short as eight to six months.
