PONDA: Taking cognisance of a Herald report, the PWD authorities on Monday tarred the several potholes on the Borim Bridge Road.
Former sarpanch Sunil Savkar who was present at site when the potholes were being filled complimented Herald for bringing to notice to authorities the potholes on the bridge.
Being one of the busiest bridges, the Borim bridge has turned weak following the closure of Cortalim bridge for heavy vehicles.
Stressing the need for a four-lane bridge at Borim, he said the present bridge is weak and vibrates. Government should propose an alternative bridge before any untoward incident occurs.
Sanjay Gadd, a daily commuter said due to the potholes, commuting along the route was a nightmare. A couple of years ago, a lady from Shiroda, who was pillion riding on a motorcycle, was killed in a mishap here, when a truck collided into a motorcycle. The rider was negotiating the potholes.
Herald in its edition dated July 5 had reported on the potholes that had sprung up on the bridge. This reporter had noticed as many as eight potholes on the bridge where steel rods were exposed following heavy downpour.
However, a private engineer who is acquainted with the facts had said that since the steel rods are exposed to rains, water would seep into the main internal structure leading to their corrosion.
He had opined that the National Highway authorities needed to inspect the bridge and take necessary action.
