Potholed road near Mapusa taxi stand poses threat

The road in front of Hindustan and Bharat Petrol Pumps near Mapusa taxi stand is in pathetic condition, as several potholes have developed on the road due to which driving of vehicles, especially two-wheelers, has become a hazardous task.
According to the nearby stall owners, the road has not been repaired for the last two years. “Accidents have become the recurrent feature on this road, but no steps have been taken as yet by Mapusa Municipal Council to repair the road,” complained the stall owners.
In a memorandum to Chief Officer of Mapusa Municipal Council, Shiv Sena has requested the authorities to repair the road on urgent basis.
“Exorbitant road tax on vehicles is collected by the government, which is supposed to be used on repair and maintenance of roads,” stated Shiv Sena Ad Hoc Committee member Philip D’Souza in the memorandum.
“Good roads are a sign of efficient spending of funds collected by way of duties and taxes. Bad roads lead to accidents which could cause serious injuries and even death and loss of property,” added D’Souza.
The memorandum further stated that dignitaries like MLAs, chairperson, MMC councilors and VIPs uses the road every day and yet it is surprising that nobody felt the need to repair the road on emergency basis.
When Shiv Sena enquired with the PWD, they were informed that the road comes under the jurisdiction of Mapusa Municipal Council and it becomes the duty of MMC to carry out repair of the road immediately to provide relief to the vehicle owners, states the memorandum.
