MAPUSA: Shree Bodgeshwar Xetkari Samitee and farmers from surrounding villages have demanded that the government prepare new land use map and register which will have names of all the farmers.
Under the banner of Bodgeshwar Shetkari Sangh several farmers from Mapusa and surrounding villages came together to discuss the issue of deletion of their names from the draft Land Use Map and Register prepared by NGPDA. The Draft Land Use Map includes Mapusa Municipal areas and the neighbouring villages of Verla-Canca, Guirim, Colvale and Camurlim.
During a meeting convened by samitee president Sanjay Barde it was resolved to take morcha to Mapusa Municipal Council next week and to approach Deputy Collector Bardez demanding adding the names of all farmers which have been omitted from plan.
Addressing the farmers, Sanjay Barde said, “NGPDA had invited suggestions and objections on land use map and register of Mapusa planning area within a month. However, the member secretary of NGPDA came to brief the council about the plan that suggestions and objections period was over”.
“Over 1300 names of farmers, who are tenants and cultivating the fields, have been deleted from occupants’ column in the land register. Names of farmers are registered along with names of land owners in the Revenue Department. However, the names of landlords are on the register but the names of tenants are missing. We have filed our objection in this connection under our shetkari sangh”, Barde informed.
“All ruling MLAs are responsible for deletion of names of the farmers and no MLA from Bardez has come out in support of the farmers and raised questions over deletion of names. They are not concerned about the farmers” Barde charged.
Ulhas Barde, Ramdas Shirodkar, Aleixo D’Souza, John Lobo and other farmers were also present.
