The DySP added that failed relationships, loans, and domestic difficulties are some of the prime reasons behind rising in depression that leads people into taking their own lives.

“It’s a common scenario where many parents expect their children to attain 100 per cent results in their exams. If a child from the neighbourhood scores well, then parents start pressuring their own children instead of providing them with moral support,” said Patil

He further said “Eventually children cave into the pressure and opt to end their lives. To prepare them for healthy competition, parents should focus on the good upbringing of their children. They should also allow their children to pursue studies in any streams they like rather than projecting their own goals.”

“When someone is depressed, family members should understand the behaviour and body language of the child. The child should be taken to the psychiatrist for counselling on time,” he said.
