A protective wall built along the Anmod–Hemmadga road, a key route connecting Goa and Belagavi, collapsed just 15 days after completion, raising serious concerns over construction quality and public safety.
The wall, constructed at a cost of ₹10 lakh, was meant to safeguard commuters from landslides and road erosion along the ghat section. However, the structure gave way during recent rains, putting daily road users at risk and forcing authorities to reassess the area for further vulnerabilities.

Local residents and commuters have expressed outrage, demanding accountability from the contractor and concerned government departments. “This is taxpayers’ money washed away. Thankfully, no lives were lost,” said a commuter from Mollem.
Officials have yet to issue a formal statement, but an investigation into the collapse and construction standards is likely.
